Biopsies are generally
performed because you or your dentist has seen something inside your mouth (or
on an x-ray), which may be somewhat abnormal. Such an abnormality is often
referred to as a "cyst" or a "tumor". Don’t let these scare you. Dr.
Follmar will evaluate the area, and, based on his evaluation, he will let you
know if this is a problem that will resolve itself or if a biopsy is needed. If
a biopsy is needed, the doctor will section a piece of the abnormal area. This
piece will be sent to a pathology lab for an evaluation. In seven to ten days,
the results will be sent to our office. At the post-operative visit (usually 10
days after surgery) the doctor will review the results with you and discuss
further treatment if needed.
