Dr. Follmar will examine your mouth thoroughly and discuss the results of your examination with you, recommending an appropriate treatment plan. He will make you feel comfortable by explaining what to expect. The more you know, the less you have to be anxious about. He will review the type of anesthetic to be used, as well as the way you are likely to feel during the operation.
He will then answer any questions you have regarding all aspects of your care.
A complete health/medical history will be taken, with particular attention to
allergies, medications and health problems that might affect surgery and /or administration of anesthesia. Dr. Follmar will check your blood pressure and certain other vital signs in order to determine the type of anesthesia to use during surgery. It is important that you provide complete medical information, particularly
in regard to medications you may be taking, so that we have an accurate assessment of your health prior to recommending surgery.
Dr. Follmar has the training, the knowledge and the experience to make your visit pleasant and comfortable.
Complex surgery can be performed in the office with little or no discomfort. During surgery, one or more of the following can be used in controlling pain and anxiety: local anesthesia, nitrous oxide, intravenous sedation, and general anesthesia. Commonly, patients describe their feelings during surgery as surprisingly pleasant. Your office anesthesia will be augmented with local anesthesia so that you will not be uncomfortable immediately following your surgery. When you return home, your prescribed oral pain medication will then take over to keep you as comfortable as possible.
You will be cared for by our trained and certified Oral and Maxillofacial surgery team. We have a registered nurse (RN) to assist in surgery. All staff are CPR certified and trained in emergency care.
